Namaskar, all!
This is a great place to meet people of like minds. I'm glad to have found it. I am a "white" American woman happily married to an East Indian man. We are both Hindu. In January of 1998 we went to India for our Hindu wedding and I was the minority for the first time. Boy did that make me appreciate what my husband faces every day in the U.S.! His parents have fully accepted me and insist that I call them Appa and Amma (Mom and Dad). My dad has fully accepted my husband but my mother (divorced) has not spoken to us in almost two years. This was a mutual decision for both of us, as she did not want to stop preaching about me marrying an "unbeliever" and I did not want her to make our future children ashamed of who they were.
I think we have several challenges in the future as parents, trying to preserve our minority religion and culture while still having a child who is fully integrated into American society. As for ourselves, I am comfortable just being myself and being part of a happy marriage. If others have an opinion about me, it does not matter, because they don't know me. They don't know my soul or who I am.
It takes a lot of courage to be in an interracial/intercultural relationship, or to accept one in your family, but it also is very enriching.
Aum Shanthi (in peace),
Amber S.

I was so touched by Melinda's success story. My husband is also a black man, and the Lord has blessed us by bringing us together. I have rarely had any problems with anyone accepting us (we live in South Florida which is a major melting pot), I was lucky enough to grow up overseas with more than 80 countries represented at my high school, so obviously race was never an issue to me. Upon returning to the US, I have learned that the only way to truly kill the evils of racism is by outreach, understanding, and by prayer, faith, and follow through. To limit yourself to one race or color would be to dismiss the beauty of diversity that God created. Melinda, your story was truly a blessing and I pray that God continues to bless you, your husband, your family.

I am so happy to see your association. With so many vicous, hateful people using the web to spread their venom, it's nice to see someone using this medium to talk about something so important and so positive. My husband and I are both Jewish and we've recently adopted a beautiful African-American baby girl. We love her so much and want her to grow up in a safe and loving world. Please keep up your fine work and this terrific website.

I think that this site is a break through in both a sociological and emotional sense. I am so glad to see that their are people out there that feel the way I do. It is time that we start to find the best way to educate everyone about IIA and what it is all about.

Hi...I'm a 20 year old white female that is currently involved in an on-line relationship with a wonderful man from Ghana. I was very happy to read your success stories, especially, "Prayer Answered Over the Internet". When I tell most people that I'm involved with someone on-line, I get a lot of wierd looks. My mom is very supportive, and so are a lot of my friends. Most of my family have gotten over the racial issue, (some won't talk to me because of it though). I am very lucky that my mom raised me the way she did, even with a step-father (they're divorced now) that was very racist.
If anyone is from Pennslyvania, e-mail me. There is a festival in my hometown called the "Amani Festival". Amani means "Peace" in Swahili. It's a multi-cultural festival that we have every year. It's a lot of fun, good food, and nice crafts, and cool games for the kids. I've helped with it for the past 4 years. It'll be on 6 May 2000. E-mail me if you're interested in it. Thanx!

Hello everyone. First I have to say that for the moment I'm not in an interracial relationship, but I do not have a single negative feeling towards them at all. In fact I admire people who will go through any torment for love. Anyways, back to my request. I participate in speech tournaments on the high school level and this year for our poetry category, we have to find poems that express diversity and the human experience. They're supposed to depict struggles in our multicutural society or any experience of culturally diverse and complex human encounters. As a caucasion female it's kind of hard because I can't very well read poetry about being African American or Hispanic. There's not an abundance of persecuted white poetry ya know. My solution was to find poems on interracial dating. People of all races experience this, and I also thought that maybe I can get across to some of my more close minded friends (whom aren't all white by the way):) Please E-mail me if you know of any good poetry please. Thank you. I appreciate it very much.

I'm a 14 female and right now I'm going out with my first boyfriend. My boyfriend is Mexican. I believe that it doesn't matter what race you are; your race doesn't make what kind of person you are. If you really love each other you can look past the ethnicity of a person. His entire family is Mexican and the only problem we have is that if they say anything in Spanish I really can't understand it (wich next year in school i'm taking Spanish as a class). I even have friends that are of differant races.

I would like to inquire about whether or not you have any articles on the language of biracial children. I am doing a college essay about it, and would like to make an impact on my professor. Articles should contain the following: bentefits of biracial, and whether or not we face any problems or difficulties.

I am a 26 year old female, mixed with polynesian, spanish and african american background. I am currently in a deep relationship with a guy who is burmese. He and I really care deeply for each other, and we do spend more and more time together. The only problem is that his burmese friends come to visit him at his home, and they seem to be a bit uneasy about our relationship. They are extremely polite to me when I come around...yet...they seem to get uneasy when they think we are spending too much time together. One time I spent the night at Myo's apartment for like, four nights...and they got upset. We ended up having an argument about it. Besides his friends uneasiness about what we feel for each other...we still are together, and getting closer...

If you are a member of a Bi-Ethnic (interracial) family or couple (Married or not) and live in the Annapolis, MD area then we would like to welcome you to the New American Family. We are hosting our very first get-together in late Dec/Jan. It will be an informal "party" type of gathering for the purpose of meeting and bonding with other Bi-Ethnic families and couples (Married or not). It is free but we may decide to hold a potluck.
The underlying purpose for the founding of the NAF is to strengthen and support the Multi-racial community; focusing on solutions to problems unique to interracial relationships; and aiding in the development of self-esteem in mixed racial individuals. The NAF is NOT a religious organization although some of the members are, we accept all religions and do not attempt to indoctrinate others.
If you would like to be involved or receive more information, E-mail me at:
