IIA RECEIVES
"EDITOR'S CHOICE AWARD "

FEBRUARY 1, 1997

Given that this is my first note of the new year, I would first like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you back (and those who are first-time visitors) and to request your continued participation this year. It's hard to believe that we're already through one month into the new year. The holidays seemed to have come and gone so quickly. I hope that all of you had a wonderful holiday season and are already experiencing good fortune and happiness in 1997.
What did I do over the holidays (besides rack my brains on how to improve the IIA website)? Well, for the first time since moving to Tokyo, Japan in November, 1995, I returned home to Philadelphia to visit my family and friends. It was truly nice to spend some quality time with my folks, my sister, and her family, after a year of up's and down's in the Land of the Rising Sun. On this visit back home, I met my 9-month-old niece for the first time, as she was born while I was away, and became re-acquainted with my 2-year-old nephew. Seeing my loving parents, my sister, her children, and my relatives, I almost didn't want to come back to Tokyo. However, my close friends, my goal to improve U.S.-Japan relations, my job as a computer consultant, and my bills called me back... :)

NOW FOR THE NEWS ! ! !
If you've noticed on the front page of the website, we are now displaying the logo of LookSmart, a leading web directory, and a link to their service. Thanks to you, LookSmart, a subsidiary of the Reader's Digest, selected the International Interracial Association website as one of the premier sites on the net for interracial issues. Without your contributions and the thousands of others who have visited IIA, this award (listed below) would not be possible. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping IIA reach this level of achievement, and more importantly, for helping to improve interracial and intercultural relations worldwide.

inclusion in the LookSmart Directory. We have viewed literally over a
million websites to select the 110,000+ chosen to meet our standards. I
invite you to explore our unique site at http://www.looksmart.com.

Congratulations on your achievement. You are welcome to display the
