Life on the Color Line: The True Story of a White Boy Who Discovered He Was Black Williams, Gregory Howard [NY: Penguin, 1995] This is one of the very best books I have ever read on the subject of race and interracial people. Not only is the story quite dramatic, as one can see by the title, but it is told in a very vigorous style, and the author has you laughing heartily one minute and shaking your head the next. Each chapter is savored by the reader, and one finds oneself eagerly looking forward to getting home and reading the next pages, as if it were the most intricate and enthralling of Dickens novels. But it is all a true story, and it is one of the greatest testimonies to the nature of American life that has ever been published. --Mark Perry
